Method for preventing the knocking of combustion engines functioning on the spark ignition principle in which a liquid anti-knocking agent, preferably water with an admixture of alcohol is added to the combustion air before it is mixed with the fuel by injection or spraying into the intake line for the working air or the working chamber of the engine.
