Polyquaternary polymeric flocculants, containing a substantially reduced total residual amount of epihalohydrin and 1,3-dihalo-2-propanol and less than about 1000 ppm of dialkylamine, are produced by reacting a polyquaternary polymer prepared from epihalohydrin, dialkylamine, and optionally a polyfunctional amine with a compound of the formula: <IMAGE> wherein R1, R2, R3 and R4 are alkyl (C1-C3), and R5 is hydrogen or hydroxyl. |
