1287305 Polyamide composite yarns SOC RHODIACETA 24 Nov 1969 [25 Nov 1968 20 Oct 1969] 57472/69 Heading B5B [Also in Division C3] A heat-crimpable composite filament of either the conjugate or the sheath-core type comprises a polyhexamethylene adipamide component and a component consisting of a ternary copolyamide prepared from hexamethylenediammonium adipate, 5-25% (based on the total weight of the salts) of hexamethylenediammonium terephthalate, and 5-20% (on the same basis) of a third salt derived from an aliphatic dicarboxylic acid containing 6 to 12 carbon atoms in the molecule and (i) an unsubstituted or C 1 -C 4 alkyl-substituted hexamethylenediamine or (ii) a cycloalkane diamine of the formula wherein R represents wherein m is an integer from 1 to 4, n and n1 are 0 or integers from 1 to 4, p is an integer from 1 to 6, R 1 is H, CH 3 or C 2 H 5 and R1 is H, CH 3 , C 2 H 5 or cyclohexyl. Preferably, the proportion of units derived from hexamethylene-diammonium terephthalate in the ternary copolyamide is 10 to 15%. The diamine constituent of the third component of the ternary copolyamide may be hexamethylene diamine, 3-aminomethyl-3,5,5-trimethylcyclohexylamine - 1, di(4 - aminocyclohexyl) methane or 2,2-bis-(4-aminocyclohexyl)- propane. The dicarboxylic acid constituent of the third component of the ternary copolyamide may be adipic, sebacic or dodecanedioic acid subject to the proviso that if the diamine constituent of the third component is hexamethylenediamine, the dicarboxylic acid is not adipic acid. The third salt may be hexamethylene diammonium sebacate, di(4-aminocyclohexyl) methane adipate, di(4-aminocyclohexyl) methane sebacate, 3-aminoethyl-3,5,5-trimethylcyclohexylamine-1 adipate or 2,2-bis-(4-aminocyclohexyl) propane dodecanoate. A preferred filament contains substantially equal proportions of the polyhexamethylene adipamide and the ternary copolyamide. In a typical example, polyhexamethylene adipamide and a copolyamide produced from hexamethylene diammonium adipate, hexamethylene diammonium terephthalate and hexamethylene diammonium sebacate in proportions of 67/17/16 by weight are extruded simultaneously, the yarn is cooled in air and wound-up. The yarn so made is stretched at ambient temperature at a ratio of 4 : 12 by passage over a snubbing pin, and crimp is developed by immersing the yarn in tensionfree state in boiling water. Drawing temperatures up to 70‹ C. are used in other examples.
