1287463 Electrostatic recording AUSTRALIA DEPARTMENT OF SUPPLY SECRETARY OF 30 Sept 1969 [30 Sept 1968] 48050/69 Heading G2H [Also in Division G5] Data is recorded and immediately developed by traversing an electrically polarizable surface 27 of resistivity not exceeding 1013 ohm. cm. with a modulated signal not exceeding 70 volts applied between a stylus 20 adjacent or contacting the surface, and a backing 2, 26 of greater conductivity than the surface, to produce a latent image and in the presence of a liquid developer 21 consisting of a (toner) medium attracted to the image and dispersed in an electrically insulating carrier liquid which wets the surface adjacent the stylus. In other embodiments, the stylus is hollow and contains the developer which is metered through the stylus to the surface in accordance with the latent image; the developer is applied to the surface upstream of the stylus; or in pores in the surface. The stylus may be piezo-electrically driven to record a laterally-modulated track and the surface may be in the form of a disc or drum. The toner may be such as to enable magnetic, conductive or capacitive read-out. Suitable materials for the polarizable surface are given.
