<p>A sphygmomanometer comprises an inflatable cuff (12) which can encircle a human limb. A pump (16) is connected to the inflatable cuff via a suitable conduit (14) to inflate the cuff. A manually operated pressure relief valve 18 is provided to effect the pressurization of the cuff. A pressure gauge (22) is connected to said inflatable cuff via a second suitable conduit (20). Interposed in the interconnecting conduit (20) between said pressure gauge (22) and the point of interconnection with said inflatable cuff is a normally closed, manually operated means (24) for momentarily opening and closing the said second conduit (20) thereby affecting the pressurization and subsequent isolation of said pressure gauge, in order to sense and maintain the pressure in said inflatable cuff at the moment of opening and shutting of said means.</p> |
