PURPOSE:To execute PCM recording and reproducing over a long period by dividing one track into N areas and arranging the divided areas along the reverse direction and the forward direction of tape traveling in the recording and reproducing method for a video signal and PCM sound signal. CONSTITUTION:PCM sound areas Pn-1... are formed on about 1/7 width of a tape from one end of a track and video areas Vn-1... are formed on the residual width to execute recording and reproducing with two helical scan heads. Each video area is divided into 6 areas and one track obtains 7 PCM areas P1n-1-P7n-1 by adding an original sound area to the 6 areas. The areas P1n-1, P3n-1, P5n-1, P7n-1 are arrayed in the forward direction of the tape traveling and the areas P2m-4, P4m-4, P6m+4 are arrayed in the reverse direction. A septernary counter for inputting the start and end pulses of the tape is provided with a clear input, so that a long recording and reproducing function for the PCM sound signals can be added to an original VRT function by controlling the septernary counter so as to be an inactive state. |
