An auxiliary heating system, composed of an auxiliary heater and automatic controls, is operatively mounted in an automobile to heat the interior of the car and to maintain it at a predetermined above-freezing subnormal temperature of say 40 DEG F. during engine shut-off periods in cold weather when the ambient temperature is at or below said predetermined temperature.
