PURPOSE:To display a lot of information, and also to make it legible by using a long rectangular liquid crystal cell for a display surface, executing a television display by a part of it, and executing a message display by using the whole display surface. CONSTITUTION:A long rectangular liquid crystal cell is used for a display surface 10, and constituted so that a part of it is used for a television display 11, and also the whole display surface 10 is used for a message display, etc. Also, a wiring for executing a display and transparent electrodes 2, 6 of a shape of a display pattern are formed on transparent substrates 1, 7 of the display side and the opposed side, respectively, and oriented films 3, 5 on its upper part and the substrates 1, 7 are stuck by a sealing material 8, and a liquid crystal composite 4 is enclosed between them. In this state, a voltage is applied selectively between the electrodes 2, 6 by a power source 9, and a display of a good contrast is executed by utilizing a variation of a polarizing axis by a variation of orientation of the liquid crystal, or an electro-optical characteristic of dynamic scattering effect, etc. In this way, both of the TV display and the message display, etc. can be executed, a message, etc. corresponding to a Chinese character can be displayed legibly, and this device is used for various OA apparatuses, etc. such as a word processor, etc. |
