The acid activity of catalysts comprising a zeolite, particularly a highly siliceous zeolite, in a matrix such as alumina is enhanced by treatment with aqueous monovalent fluoride followed by conversion of the zeolite to the hydrogen form. Suitable monovalent cations are alkali metal, ammonium and hydrogen. It is preferred to convert to the hydrogen form by ammonium exchange followed by calcination.
|
