PURPOSE:To aim at enhancing the air-tightness of a cylinder head gasket, by wedging and therefore securing the top end face of a metallic grommet which wraps therein a metallic compression ring, in the periphery of the cylinder bore of the cylinder head gasket at such a position that it makes into contact with the top surface of a gasket body. CONSTITUTION:A cylinder head gasket is composed of a grommet 5 having at its top end face four arcuate projections 5a, a compression ring 4 clamped in the grommet 5 and a gasket body 2 which receives therein the grommet 5 and has a core metal 6 made into surface-contact with the lower end face of the projections 5a. By setting the gasket body 2 onto dies 8 having a relief hole 8a for a punch 7 the grommet 5 which clamps a compression ring 4 therein is set in a predetermined opening section in the gasket body 2 with the center of the projection 5a aligning with the center of the relief hole 8a in the dies 8, and is shaped by the punch 7 so that the grommet 5 may be secured in a precise position so that uniform surface-pressure is effected in the outer periphery. |
