METHOD FOR APPLYING SKIMMER TO TAPPING SPOUT

PURPOSE:To apply economically skimmer to a tapping spout by bolting outside frames to the front and rear of a skimmer bottom frame, installing the frame in the spout, putting castable refractories onto the central bottom frame and drying the same by heating then melt-cutting the bolts and removing the outside frames. CONSTITUTION:Outside frames 3 are mounted to the front and rear of a skimmer bottom frame 4 by locking the nuts of bolts 7 in application of skimmer to the inside of a tapping spout. The assembly 2 thereof is installed in a spout 1 and castable refractories 5 are tightly packed onto the frame 4 and are dried to solidify. The bolts 7 are melt-cut by the operation of a hole (3-4) and the fames 3 are removed. The molten iron is discharged by melting the frame 4 and the slag flows laterally from the notch in the upper part of the spout. A consumable metallic member is only the frame 4 and th above-mentioned method is much more economical than the conventional monolithic mold.
