The semiconductor block (1) is mounted on a rigid glass carrier (2). It has a thin diaphragm (18) on which is a Wheatstone bridge strain gauge. Electrical connections (5) between the block (1) and connecting wires (6) are secured with drops of epoxy resin and the wires (6) are secured to the carrier (2) by an epoxy layer (13). One side of the diaphragm (18) is open to the pressure inlet (16) in the rigid housing (8) while the other side faces a cavity (17) and hole (14) through the carrier. The volume between the upper surface of the block and the inner wall of the cylindrical housing (8) is filled with flexible silicon rubber (7), which acts as a sealant and shock-absorber.
