PURPOSE:To equalize the outer diameter of a bottomed cylindrical separator so as to improve its reliability by making the separator by subjecting a separator paper material attached around a core to drawing by causing it to pass through a nozzle before the bottom of the thus obtained body is flattened. CONSTITUTION:A bottomed cylindrical separator 4 used for constituting a cylindrical battery such as an alkaline battery is formed according to the following method. After a separator paper material 4a is wrapped around a core 9 to make a cylindrical shape and its ends are stuck together with a hotmelt-type adhesive, the thus obtained body is caused to pass through a drawing nozzle 10 heated at about 300 deg.C. Next, this is cut to desired dimensions to make separator 4b the opening 4b' of which is then drawn into a conical form by means of a roraty formation body 12. Next, the bottom of the separator 4b is flattened before the flattened bottom is pressed upon the concave 14a of a heating formation body 14 in order to stick the bottom to a bottom paper sheet 13, thereby making the bottomed cylindrical separator 4. As a result, the outer diameter of the separator 4 is equalized thereby achieving accurate insertion of the separator 4 into a positive electrode and accurate insertion of a negative electrode into the separator 4. Furthermore, it is possible to prevent any internal short circuits which might be caused due to the breakage of the bottom section. |
