PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound useful as a raw material for agricultural chemicals, drugs, and transparent nylon in high yield in high selectivity, by hydrogenating dimethyladiponitrile in the presence of ammonia by the use of a Raney catalyst. CONSTITUTION:Dimethyladiponitrile is hydrogenated in the presence of ammonia by the use of a Raney catalyst (e.g., Raney nickel, or Raney cobalt) at 80-160 deg.C at >=20kg/cm<2>G hydrogen partial pressure, to give the desired substance of dimethylhexamethylenediamine. A weight ratio of the catalyst used to dimethyladiponitrile is >=0.004, ammonia water is used as ammonia and a weight ratio of 28wt% ammonia water to dimethyladiponitrile is 0.02-0.2. |
