ADSORBENT OF ALDEHYDES IN GASEOUS PHASE

PURPOSE:To obtain an adsorbent having excellent adsorptive efficiency for aldehydes in a gaseous phase by depositing aliphatic amine having specified vapor pressure on an activated carbon material having specified micropore diameter and volume. CONSTITUTION:An aliphatic primary amine or a secondary amine (e.g. ethanolic amine) having <=10mm.Hg vapor pressure is deposited on an activated carbon material having 30-300Angstrom pore diameter and >=0.15cc/g pore volume. The amt. of said amino-compd. to be deposited on the activated carbon material is preferably regulated to 1-30wt%. Since the adsorbent shows excellent adsorptive efficiency for a harmful and highly irritative gaseous aldehyde without the reflying of the deposited chemical and the clogging of the pores, the intrinsic characteristic of activated carbon where the decrease in adsorbing function is small can be preserved.
