A method for making permanent colored images on an article comprising the steps of (a) locally applying a colorant to a zone of a selected target surface; (b) locally applying a photoresist material to the zone; (c) passing light through an image to cause of portion of the photoresist material conforming to the image, to hold the colorant in place; (d) removing from the surface undesired colorant with a developer solution; and (e) applying an emulsifier solution containing a surfactant and an anti-redisposition agent to said surface to remove residual colorant therefrom. A work station for making a permanent colored image on an article, comprising (a) a housing; (b) a sink within the housing; (c) a work surface contained within the sink, which work surface being pivotally mounted to enable it to be adjusted; (d) a water control valve and a nozzle for dispersing water onto the work surface; (e) an air blower for directing air over the work surface and thereafter exhausting the air; and (f) an image project projector for projecting an image onto the work surface.
