A yarn feed device includes a drive roll around which yarn is wrapped several times the yarn passing to and from the drive roll tangentially. A drive mechanism is arranged in front of the drive roll and one end of the drive roll is uncovered by yarn to allow contact between the drive roll and a transmission element (e.g. a drive belt or drive gear) whereby to transmit drive to the drive roll from the drive mechanism. Pref. the uncovered end of the roll is delimited by a pair of peripheral flanges between which the drive belt locates., alternatively the uncovered end of the drive roll may incorporated an annular gear for engagement with the drive gear. The drive roll may consist of a circular array of parallel rods extending between circular end flanges. The device is cheap and simple to mfr. and compact and is used to feed yarn at different rates to textile machines under a low but constant tension. |
