The invention relates to the protection of a gamma detector against thermal radiation. The aim of the invention consists in protecting the gamma detector against damage and destruction in tube thickness meters for hot tubes which operate using gamma radiation, in preventing corruption of the measurement results, and in minimising the distance between the measurement object and the radiation detector. The object is achieved when the holder of the measuring device accommodates the gamma detector, is designed to be hollow and is flowed through by water at a defined pressure, a silicate filter protects the gamma detector against thermal radiation, and the measurement object is surrounded at the measuring point by a double-walled table roller adaptor through which water flows at a defined pressure.
