The present invention describes a process for removing cadmium salts and zinc salts from aqueous acid nitric acid digestion solutions from raw phosphates by liquid-liquid extraction with an organic solvent solution of a salt of long-chain quaternary ammonium bases in the presence of halides. The organic phase is re-extracted with an aqueous salt solution.
