PURPOSE:To secure close contact between plates and retainers by packing a paste into a grid, applying retainers to the surfaces of the packed grid immediately after, then subjecting the thus obtained body to drying and ageing. CONSTITUTION:After retainers 3 are affixed to the surfaces of a positive plate 2 packed with a paste by means of a packing machine 1, this is pressed by being sent through press rollers. Next, a cutter 5 is used to cut the retainers 3 into dimensions almost equal to those of the plate 2. Next, the thus obtained body is sent to the first drying furnace 6 in order to adjust the moisture content of the body to the level most appropriate for the initiation of ageing. Then, after ageing is performed by the usual method, formation is performed. After that, positive plates 2 to which retainers 3 closely stuck are combined with negative plates to make a plate group which is then installed in a container, thereby assembling a battery. As a result, a lead storage battery having a stabilized capacity can be obtained owing to the close contact between the plates and the retainers. |
