The invention relates to a process and an arrangement for the fault-free welding of hollow profiles by means of an inner strand of material to form a circular cross-section or a cross-section differing from the circular shape, in which a metal band, for example copper or other refined ferrous metals, entering longitudinally is shaped to form a closed profile and is welded together at the edges. Profiles of this type are used as plated wires, heating conductors, welding electrodes, thermocouples or high-frequency cables. The aim and object of the invention is to increase the output capacity in that the enveloping tube is welded to the inner strand of material in continuous flow in a fault-free manner. The object is achieved in that the core wire 3 is deformed downwards in a large radius of curvature 5 in front of the profiling zone, and in the profiling zone is surrounded by a metal band 1 shaped to form a tube, with band edges extending longitudinally, then the cooling tube, whilst undergoing oval deformation, runs with reduced diameter through a welding apparatus which welds the enveloping tube in a known way to form a closed tube, and thereafter the pass for fitting close together is carried out. <IMAGE>
