NEW MATERIAL:Fluoran compounds of formula II, wherein R' is a 1-4C prim. alkyl, a 3-6C alkoxyalkyl, a 3-6C cycloalkyl, (methyl or chlorine-substd.) phenyl; R<2> is a 3-6C alkoxyalkyl. EXAMPLE:2-Anilino-3-methyl-6-(N-ethyl-methoxypropylamino)-fluoran. USE:Color couplers for thermal recording and pressure-sensitive recording paper, which develop black when brought into close contact with an electron-accepting material. CONSTITUTION:A compd. of formula II is reacted with a compd. of formula III(wherein R is H, a 1-4C alkyl) in the presence of a condensing agent such as 85-100% sulfuric acid or (poly)phosphoric acid at -5-90 deg.C for several hr - several tens of hr, the reaction mixture is poured into water. The resulting precipitate is recovered by filtration. The resulting cake is heat-treated in an alkaline aq. soln. and the resulting slightly, colored, white crystal is recovered by filtration, dried and recrystallized. |
