In order to avoid excess banking-up and thus transfer of water when scooping up oil on water surfaces, a corridor is formed between two hull halves, and a barrage bridging the corridor is provided, preferably in the form of a catch wedge directed forward, which is connected at its ends via suction intakes to storage tanks in the two hull halves. On account of a normal keel position, this oil-collecting ship has good manoeuvring characteristics during headway with both the corridor and with the two hull halves closed against one another and can be used for other purposes, for example as a fire-fighting ship in the abutting state and in the corridor position for research, diving and lifting purposes as well as for forming temporary bridges by lining up an appropriate number of ships equipped in like manner.
