METHOD FOR THE REMOVAL OF UNWANTED PORTIONS OF AN ARTICLE BY SPRAYING WITH HIGH VELOCITY DRY ICE PARTICLES

A method for the removal of unwanted portions of an article such as membranes, burrs and flashing utilizing solid particles of dry ice (carbon dioxide at a temperature colder than about -56 DEG C) which are impacted against the unwanted portions is described. Kinetic energy imparted to the dry ice particles causes removal of the unwanted portions of the article upon impact. In addition, the dry ice particles cool the impacted area and with thermoplastic and elastic materials thereby embrittles thin sections of flashing and burrs and the like making them more easily removable by the impact of the dry ice particles.
