PURPOSE:To prevent crumbling of a retainer caused by impregnation of electrolyte by spraying glass fibers and molten acid-resistant thermal plastic resin, and pressing an aggregate, then cooling it to form a retainer. CONSTITUTION:A glass fiber spray 1 and a molten acid-resistant thermal plastic resin spray 2 are arranged in a chamber 3 where the temperature is kept at around melting point of the resin. Thermal plastic resin 5 is blown to sprayed glass fibers 4 from one direction or all directions to form an aggregate by densely covering each contact of glass fibers with the resin. The aggregate is pressed with a press and cooled to obtain desired thickness, and the resin in each contact of the glass fibers is fixed. Thereby, a retainer for a sealed lead- acid battery is manufactured. Since glass fibers are strongly combined, crumbling of the retainer caused by impregnation of electrolyte can be prevented. |
