PURPOSE:To locate the cathodes sufficiently close to a lead-out electrode means by providing it with escape holes where linear hot cathodes are placed or a means for positioning or fixing the linear hot cathodes is placed. CONSTITUTION:An electron source is constituted of a back surface electrode means 1, linear hot cathodes 2 and a lead-out electrode means 3 which has slits 3a used to take out electron beams from the cathodes 2 and which has escape holes 3b. The cathodes 2 are positioned and fixed by a fixing plate 4a. Each escape hole 3b extends outside the end of each cathode 2. By the means mentioned above, the linear hot cathodes 2 can be installed sufficiently near the lead-out electrode means 3. In addition, the linear hot cathodes 2 can be installed on the same plane as the electrode means 3 while preventing any contact beween the fixing plate 4a and the cathodes 2. |
