PURPOSE:To reduce reproduction deterioration of S/N ratio due to repeated irradiation with reading light and enhance light resistance during preservation, by incorporating a specified compound as a quencher into a recording layer of an optical recording medium comprising a cyanine dye. CONSTITUTION:A compound of formula I , wherein each of R<1>-R<8> is a hydrogen atom or a univalent group, R<9> is a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group or the like, X is a halogen, and M is a transition metal atom, is incorporated as a quencher into a recording layer comprising a cyanine dye, preferably, a compound of formula II, wherein each of PHI and PSI, which may be the same or different, is an aromatic ring such as formula III, L is a linking group such as formula IV, and X<-> is an anion, in the form of a monomer or, optionally, a polymer or in the form of being connected with a resin. The quencher is used in an amount of 0.01-12mol per mole of the dye. A thermoplastic resin or other auxiliary components may be further added to the recording layer. |
