The invention relates to a device for embossing the surface of product webs made of thermoplastics material by the continuous process. According to the invention the embossing tool consists of a plate web made of a suitably embossed paper-based laminate having release effect, which has the pattern to be embossed on the front side and is smoothly shaped on the reverse side.
