A hand exposure meter for photographic purposes having a measuring element and an arithmetic unit, display means for the measured variables, a printed circuit board with switching elements for the measuring element and/or arithmetic unit in a housing, preferably having a battery compartment, the arithmetic unit having a potentiometer which can be adjusted from outside by means of an adjusting disc, is to be improved such that while retaining the outside dimensions additional space is provided in the device for accommodating further switching elements on the printed circuit board, and assembly is facilitated. For this purpose, the potentiometer (5) is constructed as a slip ring potentiometer. The slip ring (15) is arranged with a rotatably mounted sliding contact (13), which is connected to the adjusting disc (2), in a flat, box-shaped receptacle (7). The cover plate (10) has potentiometer contacts which are connected in a mechanically detachable fashion to associated contacts on the printed circuit board (11). <IMAGE>
