PURPOSE:To eliminate a waste of time and improve reliability by detecting a temperature off-track extent from position information written on a specific cylinder in a data surface, and making a warm-up until the temperature off- track extent becomes smaller than a specification value. CONSTITUTION:A data head 1 is positioned at the specific cylinder where the position information is written by performing seeking operation after actuation. Then, a switch control circuit 15 controls a switch circuit 5 and a switch circuit 9 to select the head 1 and a latch circuit 10 respectively, and the position information is read in from the head 1 and outputted as (y) from a processing unit 7 through an amplifier 6. A comparator 8 compares the output (y) with a threshold voltage y1 to generate an H-level output when the temperature off-track extent enters the range between specification values + or -1 (y<y1), and the output of the latch circuit 10 obtains a level H. Similarly, when the temperature off- track extent of data heads 2-4 are within the ranges between the specification values, the outputs of latch circits 10-13 obtain the level H, so and AND circuit 14 generates an H-level output to release a warm-up state. |
