The time control device (Z) is arranged, preferably so that it can be plugged in, on a heating appliance (H) in the neighbourhood of the thermostat (T). It contains a timer (ZG) which during a respectively predetermined time period (TA) periodically acts on the thermostat (T) of the heating appliance (H) so that the room temperature is lowered during this predetermined period (TA). The timer (ZG) contains two timing stages (ZS1,ZS2), of which the first timing stage (ZS1) determines the duration of a period (TP), usually 24 hours, and the second timing stage (ZS2) determines the respectively predetermined time period (TA), for example between 0.5 and 15.5 hours. A control stage (AS1,AS2) is connected following the timer (ZG), and acts electronically or thermally on the thermostat (T) of the heating appliance (H) to lower the room temperature. The supply voltage (UV) of the timer is taken from the heating appliance (H). <IMAGE>
