With different equipping of a group processor (GP) with memories (MU) of varying size and differing construction, variants for the bootstrapping program are obtained. One memory (X) for the bootstrapping program of a group processor (GP) is accommodated in terms of hardware on the main memory (MU) and, when the system is switched on or put into operation again, is interrogated by the group processor (GP), which uses the bootstrapping program as a basis both for calling the required control program from a backing store (EM) and for bringing all the units (PU) under its control into the state of operational readiness. <IMAGE>
