The invention relates to a vehicle wheel with a pneumatic tyre having a rigid drop centre rim and having a tyre in which the rim has essentially radially inwardly extending rim flanges and next to these seat surfaces for the tyre on the radially inner circumference and next to the seat surfaces mounting depressions (non-drop centre) which are delimited by the side walls of the drop centre and in which radially on the outside next to the drop centre there are emergency support surfaces. In order to increase the dimensional stability of the rim and as a protection for the tyre it is proposed that a protective ring emerges from at least one of the walls of the drop centre, the wall of which ring extends outwards essentially axially in the transverse direction and protects the tyre bead against braking heat irradiation.
