PURPOSE:To perform favorable thermal transfer recording even on a recording medium having poor surface smoothness, by a method wherein a thermal transfer material provided with a thermally transferrable ink layer comprising a coloring agent dispersed therein on a gas-permeable base is used, the transfer material is provisionally heated from the side of a recording medium, and a pneumatic attractive force is exerted. CONSTITUTION:The thermal transfer material 1 provided with the thermally transferrable ink layer 3 on a sheet form gas-permeable base 2 is used. The recording medium 6 is faced to the ink layer 3, a pneumatic attractive force is exerted from the back side of the medium 6 through air suction holes 7a, a preheated platen 7 is placed, and het pulses are supplied by a thermal head 8, thereby locally heating the ink layer 3 in accordance with a desired printing or transfer pattern. |
