<p>A hot isostatic pressing (HIP) apparatus utilises a high pressure vessel (1), a heat insulating layer (4) and a heater (5) disposed inside the heat insulating layer (4). The heat insulating layer (4) and the heater (5) are disposed within a high pressure chamber defined by upper and lower covers (2, 3). The heat insulating layer (4) is itself composed of at least inner and outer inverted cup-like casings (8, 9); the outer casing (8) being metallic and having a hermetic structure and the inner casing (9) having a hermetic structure. A passage (10) in the outer casing (8) contains a valve (11) capable of being opened and closed with the aid of a mechanism (12) mounted on the upper cover (2). A passage (13,16) establishes communication through the heat insulating layer (4) and the pressure chamber to promote convection of gas under control of the valve (11) in a cooling step performed after 'HIP' treatment.</p> |
