The valve has a stem (2) which carries a conical head (3) on its end with a tapered seat (4) on the top of the head which seats on the valve opening in the cylinder head. Immediately above the seat the valve head has a ring (5) of vertical vanes arranged so that the passages (6) between them are at an angle to the radius through them. Above this ring there is a second ring (7) of vertical vanes arranged so that the passages (8) between them are at an angle in the opposite direction to the radius through them. A space (9) is left between the inside edges of the vanes and the stem (2).
