PURPOSE:To realize a printer smaller in the whole size allowing a dot printer having a small printing width to print on a label having a larger printing width than that of the printer, by a method wherein a character pattern, which is transversely or longitudinally converted and stored according to a character pattern memory and the predetermined label format, is read to be outputted to a thermal head. CONSTITUTION:If a printing mode is a transverse made, a character pattern is stored in a given area in a printing memory according to the specified format (P5). If it is a longitudinal mode, the character pattern is store in a given area in the printing memory according to the specified format (P7) after being converted 90 degrees (P6). With the transverse printing mode, a label printing on a numeral printing field is conducted (P14) and succesively that on a trade name printing field is carried out (P15). With the longitudinal printing mode, the printing patterns for the first dot line which required to be printed on the respective numeral, trade name and blank printing fields etc. are sequentially read according to the format (P16). After that, the printing patterns are succesively shifted to a shift resister to perform label printing (P17). |
