MOLD FOR CONTINUOUS CASTING OF BEAM BLANK

PURPOSE:To obtain a billet having no longitudinal cracking on the surface by constituting the outside line in the fillet part corresponding to the meniscus of a casting mold of such a continuous arcuate cuve of which the radius of curvature increases successively toward the inside wall of a web. CONSTITUTION:The outside line 14 in the fillet part corresponding to the meniscus of a mold for continuous casting of a beam blank is constituted of plural or infinite arcs having different radii R1-R4 of curvature. Said line 14 is constituted of such a continous arcuate curve of which the absolute value of the radius of curvature attains R1>R2>R3>R4 near the contact point 16 approaching to the inside wall 15 of the web. Uniform extraction of heat is thus effected without producing any space between the billet and the mold in the stage of continuous casting. The longitudinal cracking which is liable to arise on the surface of the billet at the contact point between the curve of the fillet part and the straight part of the web is thereby prevented.
