PURPOSE:To eliminate the need of continuously applying an electric current and to prevent deterioration of parts related to operations for applying an electric current by continuously maintaining the state of damping force changed by excitation of a solenoid. CONSTITUTION:An oil path 2' connecting chambers A, B to each other and an orifice 2'' are bored through a piston rod 2, and the open area of the orifice 2'' is varied by an adjust valve 10 operated by a solenoid to adjust the damping force. A pin 16 secured to an adjust valve 16 is engaged with a cam surface 17 which is formed on the outer periphery of a stopper 11 and provided with a plurality of bending portions different in level, so that when a solenoid is excited, the adjust valve 10 is lowered to move the pin 16 along the cam surface 17. When the solenoid is released from excitation, the adjust valve 10 is lifted up by a spring 12 and the pin 16 moved to the next different level bending portion, so that the damping force is changed, and the changed damping force is maintained in its state by a stopper mechanism. |
