Individual black and white frames from film (100) are colorized by combining optically or electronically with associated frames of colour film (120) or similar video images. These are generated by an operator assisted by computer (110). Every N<th> frame of black and white may be colorized by the operator, the spatial resolution of the color information being less than that of the black and white. Some of the intervening color frames may then be interpolated, the remainder being copied from adjacent frames. Similar techniques may be applied to full color film to repair damage or to create special effects. <IMAGE> |
