PURPOSE:To increase the sensitivity of a photosensitive silver halide material and to prevent fog by incorporating a specified sensitizing dye into a silver halide emulsion layer of the material having the layer on the support. CONSTITUTION:A sensitizing dye represented by formula I or II is incorporated into a silver halide emulsion layer. By incorporating the dye, the photosensitive wavelength range of the emulsion layer is extended, and an image free from fog can be formed with high sensitivity. In the formulae, Z1 is O, S or Se; D1 is a group of atoms required to form an oxazole ring or an oxazoline ring; each of R1, R4 and W1-W4 is H, alkyl or the like; each of R2, R3, R5 and R6 is alkyl; W1 and W2, W2 and W3, and W3 and W4 may bond to each other to form each ring; each of X1<-> and W2<-> is an anion; each of Z2 and Z3 is S or Se; each of D2 and D3 is a group of atoms required to form a thiazole ring, a selenazole ring or the like; each of m and n is 1 or 2; and when the sensitizing dye forms an inner salt, each of m and n is 1. |
