PURPOSE:To make the polarization characteristics of an output constant in time and to make light paths agree with each other, by forming an optical fiber coil by an optical fiber, whose difference in phase propagation velocities is large in the directions of optical main axes, which are crossed at a right angle; and inputting linearly polarized light beams, whose vibrating directions agree with the same optical main axis, into both ends of the coil. CONSTITUTION:An optical fiber coil is formed by an optical fiber, whose difference in phase propagation velocites is large in the directions of optical main axis (x) and (y), which are crossed at a right angle. The linearly polarized light in the direction of (y) from a laser 1 is applied to both input ends 7 and 8 of the coil through a half mirror 2 and lenses 4 and 5. The linearly polarized surfaces of both incident light beams agree with the direction of the same optical axis of the optical fiber. Therefore, the polarization characteristics of the light in the output becomes constant in time, and the light paths agree with other. |
