PURPOSE:To increase a rotating angle of polarization and to obtain a photomagnetic recording medium having excellent recording and reproducing efficiency by providing a semitransparent vertical magnetized film consisting of a mixture composed of a ferromagnetic metal and dielectric material on a transparent base plate and forming a reflecting layer on the surface of the magnetized film. CONSTITUTION:A semitransparent vertical magnetized film 2 which consists of the evaporating atoms of Fe, Co, Ni or the alloy thereof, etc. and a dielectric material formed by oxidizing a part thereof by oxygen and which has >=10% transmittivity of light and 100-1,000Angstrom film thickness is formed on the surface of a transparent base material 1 such as a glass base plate, acrylic resin plate or the like. A reflecting layer 3 having >=1,000Angstrom thickness is then formed on the film 2 by vapor deposition of a non- magnetic metal such as Al, Cu or the like to increase the Kerr rotating angle of the film 2 itself. The excellent photomagnetic recording medium is obtd. by the effect of increasing said angle and the Faraday rotation by the layer 3. The rotating angle of polarization can be further increased by forming the layer 3 of a vertical magnetized metallic film of a soft magnetic material such as ''Permalloy'', iron, Co, etc. or Co-Cr, Tb-Fe, etc. A transparent insulating layer 4 is provided between the plate 1 and the film 3 if necessary to decrease the loss by heat conduction in the stage of thermomagnetic recording. |
