<p>When a piece of luggage is booked in, the clerk (12) attaches a passive responder label (5), taken at random from a hopper (13). Each label has a unique responder code which is transmitted when placed within 60 cm of a loop providing a high frequency sinusoidal field. The clerk enters the destination on a computer terminal (15) and the destination code is recorded together with the label responding code, picked up by a loop (2) in the support plinth (14). The luggage (6) is then loaded onto a conveyor (16). When the luggage reaches the loading bay, it is placed in a trolley to be taken to the aircraft. The trolley has another h.f. loop connected to the computer, which will cause an alarm if the luggage is placed in the wrong trolley.</p> |
