The invention relates to a circuit arrangement for digital gas mixing and gas metering of a breathing gas mixture of air or N2O and O2 by means of pneumatic and electrical components. Using the same components, the circuit arrangement achieves qualitatively and quantitatively variable ventilation patterns in calibrated form both for the gas mixing and for the gas metering. According to the invention, this object is achieved in that a mixed gas stream of 1...n stepped part-streams of different gas types is composed according to the desired mixture for digitisation of the gas mixture and in that a total gas stream results due to the selective utilisation of 1...n different part-streams of the mixed gas stream by subsequent digitisation of the gas metering, the gas part-streams being achieved by metering throttles with electrically set directional control valves located in front of the throttles and receiving their signals from a computer and a program selection.
