The invention relates to a flexible workshop installation using one or more assemblies formed by a robot arm 10 and its carrier 9 and a transfer device 4. The purpose of the invention is to obtain quality and speed of work which are comparable with those of a system designed for low amplitude tool displacements, with a high displacement speed. For this purpose, the carrier 9 is provided with means allowing it to be attached at will 18a, 20, either to the part to be processed, or to a moving rolling beam or similar of the workshop. Advantageously, the bridge is fitted with a gripper 8 with gyroscopic stabilisation for the orientation of the carrier. Application to shipbuilding. <IMAGE>
