PURPOSE:To obtain an ECD having an extremely small aging change in display contrast during storage by using lithium borofluoride as a base electrolyte which constitutes an organic electrolytic solution, and using an electrolytic solution having specific water content. CONSTITUTION:The ECD uses lithium borofluoride as the base electrolyte which constitutes the organic electrolytic solution 8. Then, the electrolytic solution 8 in use contains 0.01-0.1M/l, and a counter electrode 5 uses the reductant of transition metal oxide, such as carbon or tangsten oxide, stable to the electrolytic solution 8, or a mixture of them. A display body 3 uses transition metal oxide. The ECD is further composed of a substrate 1, electrode 2, insulator 4, reflecting plate 6, glass frame 1'', epoxy resin 11, electrode terminals 9, 10, and 12, electrode 13, etc. |
