The serial input data are grouped into several sequences of words and these are used to generate sequences of error correction words. The data and error correction sequences are allocated different delays and used to produce a series of data blocks for transmission. In particular the data stream is split so that alternate words are added to one of two groups. All words in the second group are delayed by more than the longest delay in the first group and the error correction words are delayed by an intermediate period.
