In order to obtain extremely finely comminuted cellulose with a substantial increase in the surface area and markedly improved properties with respect to absorption, reactivity and setting ability, a liquid suspension of fibrous cellulose is forced under a high pressure through a small orifice (3). This results in a shear effect at high velocity. Vigorous braking takes place on an impact ring (5). Preferably, the suspension is heated up to at least 50-80 DEG C, and the process of forcing it through is repeated several times. <IMAGE>
