The facade cladding is composed of cladding panels, which are arranged next to one another and in rows above one another, and partly overlap one another vertically, and which are held in their positions by horizontally running supporting rails. In this arrangement, each supporting rail simultaneously embraces the upper edges of the cladding panels of a lower panel row in the surface bond and the lower edges of the cladding panels of an upper panel row in the surface bond, so that the panels of each individual row are in each case secured by two supporting rails lying one above the other. The supporting rails can be attached directly to the wall to be clad or held at a distance therefrom, and to be precise are accommodated by distance means arranged between the fastening flanges of the supporting rails and the wall to be clad, or, alternatively, on a substructure comprising supporting strips which are attached to the wall to be clad in vertical positions at a distance from one another.
